Námskeiðslýsing / Course description:

Join Stephen for a colorful course all about shawl knitting. In this workshop, Stephen will share his simple approach to top-down shawls. You will enjoy a demonstration Westknits shawls up close and in person, showing a variety of striping techniques, texture details, and shaping ideas. Then, you will be guided to knit your own shawl modifications and design variations with simple triangle and semi-circle shawl recipes.

This workshop is fun, adventurous, and playful as we experiment with different shawl shapes and color customisations.

Bring a few colors of fingering weight yarn and needles (3.75mm recommended) to begin a mini shawl.

Taka með / Bring algong:

3 or more colors of fingering weight yarn + 3.75mm needles. Yarns can be scraps/leftovers to experiment. Bring some mohair or brushed alpaca to add some
fluffy fun to your shawl experiment!

Nauðsynleg kunnátta / Required skills:

Knit, purl, increase. Adventurous beginners and beyond are welcome to join!

Tungumál: Enska / English

Kennari / Teacher:

Stephen West has been designing knitting patterns for 17 years. He especially loves to
knit and design shawls because they are corful landscapes to play and experiment with color, texture, and shapes. Stephen has been traveling to Iceland every year for the past 16 years. He loves visiting Iceland for knitting inspiration, from the colors in nature to the colorful houses in Reykjavik. You can often find him café knitting, sitting in the pool while dreaming of his next shawl creation, eating cinnamon buns, and chasing cats in the streets of Reykjavik for a photo.

Stephen was born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma; moved to Chicago, Illinois for school, and later moved to Amsterdam, Netherlands, to study choreography. He currently lives in Amsterdam where he co- owns Stephen & Penelope, a yarn boutique in the city center.

In 2019 Stephen and his business partner Malia Mae Joseph realized a long-held dream by launching their first yarn brand, West Wool, which now features six different bases and 100 colors.
